Nicholas Sibinga, MD, is Professor, Department of Medicine (Cardiology), Professor, Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology and Charles and Tamara Krasne Faculty Scholar in Cardiovascular Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research focuses on basic mechanisms of vascular remodeling and obstruction, which underlie vascular disease. His research team, including Sayan Nandi, identified a protein pathway associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and ALS. This opens the door to using drugs to target the pathway and prevent damage to neurons in these and other diseases. Sibinga received the XSeed Award in 2022 for his work on microglial phagocytosis in neurodegeneration.
