Gabriele Ciceri, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a member of the Lorenz Studer Lab. His research focuses on identifying genetic factors controlling the timing of neuronal maturation. Ciceri and his colleagues uncovered a molecular mechanism underlying the slow maturation of human neurons and developed a method to speed up the neuron’s internal clock in the lab. This innovation could accelerate research into neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases. Ciceri received the XSeed Award in 2022 for work as part of the Studer Team at MSKCC combining novel hPSC village and maturation approaches for clinically relevant drug discovery.
