Glennis Mehra, PhD, is a serial entrepreneur, business advisor, and angel investor. She is the Director of Biolabs@NYULangone, a business incubator for startup life science companies. Mehra spearheads a community of innovators dedicated to advancing therapeutics, diagnostics and sustainability initiatives. Since assuming leadership in 2021, she has propelled Biolabs' growth by 50 percent, welcoming 36 new companies into the group. 

Mehra started her professional career at Columbia University’s Technology Ventures group, where she played a pivotal role in creating intellectual property strategies and valuation systems to help commercialize technologies from the biology and chemistry departments. She then went on to co-found two successful startups in India. Catalyst 6 identified, developed and branded technology-based health and wellness products for the burgeoning Indian consumer goods market. Saf Labs provided biotechnology and functional genomics products and services for research and clinical development. She went on to become a director at SPRIM Strategy and Innovation group to identify new acquisition opportunities and generate new product concepts.

In addition to her work at Biolabs, Mehra is also a dedicated advocate for sustainability, and currently serves as the founding president of the New York Chapter of I2SL (International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories), focusing on solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of life science research. 

She also contributes her time and expertise to a variety of community projects, including mentoring first time founders of early stage companies, serving on the Economic Development Council of New York’s Life Science Advisory Board and the Board of HITLAB (Healthcare Innovation & Technology Lab), a leading digital health innovation and teaching lab.

Mehra serves as a member of Cure’s Leadership Committee for the 2024 XSeed Award, which provides New York City minority- and women-led life science and healthcare startups critical funding to translate scientific discoveries into commercially successful drug therapies. She is deeply committed to fostering knowledge sharing, expanding opportunities for life science businesses and championing entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds.

“It’s vital to include women and underrepresented populations in the process of addressing today’s health care challenges,” Mehra said. “Supporting and harnessing the power of the diverse lived experiences and perspectives helps ensure the creation and development of new innovations that impact the full spectrum of society, even at its edges.”  

Mehra earned her bachelor’s degree in neuroscience & behavior and biology from Wesleyan University, where she was a member of the Sigma Xi National Honor Society and a Howard Hughes Institute undergraduate research fellow. She went on to complete her PhD in neurobiology & behavior from Columbia University.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Mehra finds joy in gardening, cherishing time with her daughters, and researching and collecting antiquities from Africa and India.
