Christine Brideau is the Vice President of Preclinical Pharmacology at Deerfield Discovery and Development (3DC), where she oversees the biology team that supports more than 25 university collaborations and leads efforts dedicated to identifying therapeutic targets and advancing novel treatments. Her career has spanned nearly 30 years in the life science industry, where she has been a champion for innovation and improving patient outcomes.

Throughout her career, she broke new ground in automating biology and high throughput drug screening and helped to pioneer the process of interpreting “big data” – the ability to sift through millions of data points large datasets and extract key insights into selecting promising early prototypical molecules. Brideau built-up multiple laboratories and assembled high-performing teams to help develop drugs faster and cheaper.

Brideau worked at Merck for 24 years, where she was Executive Director of In Vitro Pharmacology and led multiple research projects with a team of more than 100 scientists. She played a pivotal role in the discovery and development of the COX-2 inhibitor class of anti-inflammatory drugs, including Vioxx®, Arcoxia®, Previcox®, and Equioxx®. These important drugs were designed to treat a number of debilitating conditions including arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute pain conditions, migraine and dysmenorrhea.

In 2014, Brideau left Merck to become Vice President of In Vitro Biology at WuXi AppTec in Cranbury, NJ, where she spearheaded the development of proof of concept and mechanism of action studies and high throughput screening assays for unique molecules. She worked at WuXi until leaving for Deerfield in 2019.

Brideau also serves as a member of Cure’s Leadership Committee for the 2024 XSeed Award, which provides critical funding to New York City minority- and women-led life sciences companies to translate scientific discoveries into commercially successful drug therapies. This is part of her ongoing commitment to promoting early research projects and supporting researchers of diverse backgrounds.

“Drug discovery and development – and the ability to transform lives – is really hard,” Brideau said. “My mission with the XSeed Award is to help people move ideas forward, launch new programs and improve health outcomes.”

Brideau is a member of scientific organizations including the Scientific Advisory Board of the CQDM (Consortium Québecois pour la Découverte de Médicaments),  NIH Molecular Libraries Program study section, NIH Chemical Genomics High Throughput Screening Scientific Advisory Board and the Journal of SLAS (Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening) Discovery Editorial Board.

Brideau earned a BS degree with a specialization in cell and molecular biology from Concordia University and has contributed to more than 50 publications. 

Brideau enjoys hiking, cooking and exploring the cultural scene in New York City.

The Research Reproducibility Problem and Its Impact on Drug Discovery
