New interdisciplinary conference crosses specialities, expertise

RISE UP for Breast Cancer is a new interdisciplinary medical meeting that takes an out-of-the-box approach to address the needs of patients considering and undergoing treatment for the different forms of this disease.

The conference, formally called Revolutionizing Investigations to StEp Up Prevention for Breast Cancer, at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, CA from November 1-3, 2024. The meeting is designed to encourage new approaches that cross specialities and blend expertise to find solutions that will help reduce breast cancer incidence and mortality and aid prevention.

Women’s health providers of all medical and care specialties, scientists, advocates, policymakers and innovators are expected to attend. Meeting organizer Laura Esserman, MD, director of the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Professor of Surgery and Radiology, is working with collaborating organizations that include UCSF, the University of Minnesota, the Dana Farber, and Medicines360.

Attendees will share the latest knowledge of breast cancer biology, treatment, and hormonal management. RISE UP will also examine innovative therapeutic approaches for women with operable breast cancer.

The new collaborations born at the meeting aim to be paradigm-shifting and will represent a forum that does not currently exist. Awards will be given for innovative “Ideas to Implementation” in a session aimed at inspiring innovators, investors, researchers, and industry. Reproductive rights and access to care also will be discussed.
